An insight into blood clots

What are blood clots? A gel-like lump of blood is known as blood clothes. Blood clotting is essential to stop bleeding. Blood clots are usually formed as a response to an injury. The process of blood clotting or coagulation is essential to prevent excessive bleeding that happens when a blood vessel is injured. During an injury, the platelets and the proteins in the plasma act together to stop the process of bleeding by forming a cloth. Usually, these clots are naturally dissolved by the body once the injury has healed. However, in certain cases, blood clots form on the inside of the vessels without any injury or are not dissolved. In such cases medical attention is immediately required.

What is the risk factor that leads to formation of blood clots? There are various risk factors that put a person at a higher risk of developing blood clots. These risk factors include, obesity, using birth control pills, hormonal replacement therapy, pregnancy, smoking, trauma or injury, old age, family history of blood clots, sedentary lifestyle, having had a major surgery, autoimmune disorders, having cancer, covid-19, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels etc.

Symptoms of blood clots: The symptoms of blood clot differ depending upon the location of the blood clot. In some cases, the patient might not experience any symptoms at all. However, depending upon the location of the clot, the symptoms experienced include,

Hands and legs: Pain upon touch, swelling, tenderness, warmth and redness.

Abdomen: Chronic pain, nausea and vomiting.

Brain: Trouble speaking, vision problems, weakness in the face, arms and legs, chronic headaches, dizziness, and seizures.

Heart: Heaviness in the chest, chest pain, pain or discomfort in the upper body, sweating, nausea, shortness of breath and lightheadedness.

Lung: Piercing sharp chest pain, shortness of breath, fever, sweating or coughing up blood.

Upon experiencing any of these symptoms in any of these locations, it is essential to seek medical attention immediately.

Can blood clots be prevented? Prevention of blood clots is possible by preventing the risk factors. Making lifestyle modifications, eating a healthy diet, becoming more active physically, avoiding smoking or reducing the consumption of excessive birth control and hormonal pills are some preventive measures that can help in reducing the risk of developing blood clots.

Treatments: there are various treatment options available to treat blood clots. Depending upon the condition of the patient, the doctor will select the best treatment option. Certain medications are given directly into the veins through catheter, some medications are for oral use and in some instances, the clot needs to be removed surgically. It is essential to inform the doctor in case a clot occurs during a pregnancy.

Evaparin 300mg Injection is a medication that is used for treating and preventing blood clots. This medication contains the active ingredient Enoxaparin. Evaparin 300mg Injection works by binding and forming a complex with the protein antithrombin that is responsible for the formation of abnormal clots. This formed complex irreversibly inactivates the factor Xa (responsible for clot formation), thereby preventing the formation of clots. If you have blood clots, your doctor might prescribe you this medication.
